What we cover
Our reporting is organised around six desks — Politics & Security, Economy & Business, Energy & Mining, Technology, Culture and Interviews — and tagged by country, so a story about a port concession in Djibouti sits alongside everything else we have published on Djibouti.
We follow six countries and no others: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and Sudan. The two groupings on the menu (Horn of Africa and East Africa) are navigation, not editorial boundaries; a story frequently belongs to more than one.
How we work
Stories are reported from the field where the subject is on the ground, and analysis is written by people who cover the brief continuously rather than parachute in. Every piece carries a named byline and the city the writer works from. You can see the full newsroom on the masthead.
Where we get something wrong, we correct it in place and say what changed. Corrections and complaints go to the editors — the addresses are on the contact page.
Free to read
There is no paywall at Mogadishu Eye and there will not be one. Every story, every analysis and every newsletter is open to everyone, including readers in the countries we cover, where a subscription in hard currency would put the reporting out of reach of the people it is about.
Privacy
We do not sell reader data and we do not run third-party advertising trackers. The site loads no fonts, scripts or images from other companies’ servers — nothing on this page reaches out to anyone but us. The privacy policy sets out what we do collect.
