UN divided over expanding Sudan arms embargo

 

Deep divisions remain within the UN Security Council over whether the existing Darfur arms embargo should be expanded across Sudan.

The United States is pushing for a nationwide embargo, while Russia, China, Pakistan and several African members oppose broadening the current measures.

The debate comes amid mounting evidence of foreign arms flows into Sudan, including allegations and documented findings linking UAE support to the RSF. The issue has become central to wider discussions over how external military backing is shaping the war.
